Alabama : The French were the first to settle in Alabama, establishing Mobile in 1702.From 1702 to 1763, southern Alabama was French. 1763 to 1780, it was part of British West Florida, and 1780 to 1814 part of Spanish West Florida.Statehood for Alabama was delayed because there was no coastline. Andrew Jackson's capture of Spanish Mobile in 1814 rectified the lack of coastline, and Alabama became the twenty-second state admitted to the Union, in 1819.Prints are available in Lustre Finish: Print Sizes and Prices: Send E-mail to Gary Ricketts

Chicago :
With the help of local Indians, Louis Jolliet and French-born Jesuit Jacques Marquette were the first Europeans to discover the Chicago region in 1673. The name Chicago is a French version of the Miami-Illinois word shikaakwa (wild leek/skunk), named for the plants common along the Chicago River. The first permanent settlement was established by Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable, a Haitian of African and French descent, who arrived in the 1770's. In 1840, Chicago was the ninety-second most populous city in the United States, and in 1860 it was the ninth most populous city.Abraham Lincoln, home state candidate, was nominated for President during the 1860 Republican National Convention in Chicago.Prints are available in Lustre Finish: Print Sizes and Prices: Send E-mail to Gary Ricketts

Garden of the Gods :
In 1859, when gold was discovered in Colorado, two surveyors from Denver City set out to establish a townsite now known as Colorado City. The two stumbled upon a beautiful area of sandstone formations. One of the men suggested it was a "capital place for a beer garden". His companion responded, " Beer garden? Why this is a fit place for the Gods to assemble. We will call it the Garden of the Gods."The beer garden never came about, but the name - Garden of the Gods took hold. In 1909, the Garden of the Gods was conveyed to the City of Colorado Springs, "Where it shall remain free to the public, where no intoxicating liquors shall be manufactured, sold, or dispensed, where no building or structure shall be erected except those necessary to properly care for, protect, and maintain the area as a public park."Prints are available in Lustre Finish: Print Sizes and Prices: Send E-mail to Gary Ricketts

Central Park Autumn :
Central Park - —The Manhattan Oasis
Central Park occupies 6% of Manhattan's total acreage, and is located between Fifth and Eighth Avenue and 59th and 110th Street.
In 1853 when the City of New York bought the 843 acres that would become Central Park, it was a far away place between New York City and Harlem. Converting the swamp land into the park took more than fifteen years, 20,000 workers, hundreds of thousands of planted trees, and three million cubic yards of dirt.
Today, there are 8,968 benches, 36 pedestrian bridges, 29 sculptures, and 1 zoo in Central Park.
