Words To Live By—Monserrat

The Monastery of Montserrat, which is not far from Barcelona, Spain, is home to some seventy to one-hundred Benedictine monks.

It sits at a location where a group of shepherd children in 880 A.D. saw a bright light descend from the sky, followed by angles singing and joyful music. The children brought their parents and a local vicar to the location and they experienced the same visions. A statue of the Virgin Mary was discovered in a cave at the site of the bright light.

Over the years, millions upon millions of pilgrims and others have visited the site. Today, nearly three million people visit each year.
